Social work practices within an agency setting provides abundant opportunities to grow leaders. These individuals may be identified by either formal or informal manner. This presentation will utilize theoretical perspectives in leadership and management theory to discuss the fit and lack thereof between the profession of social work including core values. Tenants from Psychological Contract, Goal Setting and Role Theory will be utilized to describe the complex relationship between the front line (social) worker and the management from which they receive direction.
Objectives:
The learner will be able to:
- Identify leadership roles that social workers fulfill
- Identify the differences between management roles and leadership roles
- List tasks within the learner's agency where informal leadership is viewed.
